Noise and shouting

Saturday, October 30th, 2004

I’ve been reading through the November issue of Metal Hammer magazine and came across a less than favourable review of Glasgow thrash band Mendeed’s debut album “From Shadows Came”:
While there is no doubt that they can play, their songs are a bit generic - not to mention totally devoid of any creative spark… a collection […]

Queen on Fire

Friday, October 29th, 2004

I never saw Queen live in concert with Freddie Mercury. I scraped together the cash to travel down to London in 1991 to attend the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert at Wembley stadium, and stayed over at my Mum’s cousin’s flat in Streatham, and that was a pretty special concert. But I would have […]

Waxman 1.999w Pocket Chess

Tuesday, October 26th, 2004

I’ve now uploaded Waxman 1.999w Pocket Chess for Windows to my PC Downloads page.
Waxman has been one of my favourite chess games for Windows for years. It is fast, small, and with a beautifully simple and pleasing look. Great for a quick game, or to setup positions.

John Robert Parker Ravenscroft (aka John Peel)

Tuesday, October 26th, 2004

What sad, sad news to learn that legendary DJ John Peel has died suddenly while on holiday in Peru. I was visiting our local Roman Catholic community when one of the priests, Fr John, returned home with the news that John Peel had died suddenly, of a heart-attack.
I discovered John Peel rather late on, […]
