Perspective

I climbed into bed last night, around 1:00 am, and dropped off to sleep listening to BBC Radio 4. As I lay on my back looking up at the sloping ceilings of our bedroom, illuminated by the moonlight, I listened to an extended news item about Sudan, and Darfur in particular, and thought about how fortunate we are.

Here I am worrying about what to do next year and where we’ll live, and yet there are awful, terrible things happening in Africa, and in many places all over the world. I sometimes forget what a priviledged position I am in, and how unbalanced the life of this small planet is. It doesn’t seem fair.

If you want to feel less priviledged, we can come back and smash some more crockery… :)

…but ’tis true, we are blessed beyond our own comprehension. Definitely a good thing to get some perspective.
