The 3 J's Jute, jam and Journalism is a small part of Dundes history. People forget that Dundee was scotlands richest burgh and was for a time the second biggest but due no more than 8 sackings over 500 hundred years (1100s 1700s) the walls of dundee gave in, and left forgotten.

Dundee is full of forgotten past this is one of its downfalls that and the amout of neds that need to be forgotten about!

Dundee United are well known as the best football team in the World (though they hide it very well) and of course who could forget Dundee Cake.

Seconded. Maybe this season...

Thanks Louise, that's really quite an impressive CV for Dundee, and like I said, I really quite like Dundee, what I've experienced of it so far.

Another few things in Dundee's favour:

* it's where my brother's friend Crazy Iain lives, and he's great

* my college flatmate James is a priest there, so that's pretty good

* it is where writer, philanthropist and King Danny Wallace was born

But having said of all that ... it's still not as great a place as Selkirk! ;)

As a proud Dundonian now exiled in Selkirk, I feel it's my duty to stick up for my homeland, so here goes, Dundee is also famous for -

Jute, Jam amd Journalism. It used to be the world centre for the manufacture of jute, It was also the home of Keilers jam and marmalade and it is the home of D.C.Thompson newspapers, Magazines and comics (Oor Wullie, Beano, People's Friend, Sunday Post..).

It is now called the "City of Discovery" as it is the home of Scott of the Antartic's ship the RRS Discovery. For the nauticaly minded it also houses the HMS Unicorn which is the oldest British built ship afloat. A 46 gun ship of war first commissioned in 1824 by the Royal Navy.

A young Winston Churchill served as a Member of Parliament for Dundee

Dundee United are well known as the best football team in the World (though they hide it very well) and of course who could forget Dundee Cake.

oh and my mum works in Ninewells, and my dad works in DC Thompsons
P.S Cheers for a great blog Gareth
