Perindopril

Last Wednesday my renal consultant (I have Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease) put me on ACE inhibitors, which are a drug that have the side-effect of reducing one’s blood pressure.
Today Jane picked them up from the chemist. But I’ve just read the instructions:
ONE tablet to be taken in the MORNING
Take 30-60 minutes before food.
What?!
They’ve to be taken half-an-hour to an hour BEFORE breakfast?! That’s enough to send my blood pressure sky high!!
Tomorrow morning I’m going to a training workshop on “writing for the web” somewhere west of Glasgow, but east of New York. Which will mean leaving the house at 05:30.
That means that I’ll need to get up somewhere between 04:00 and 04:30 just in order to pop a pill. What a healthy way to begin!

or you could take your breakfast with you and stop to eat it half an hour into the trip…?

I knew there was an advantage in not being able to face food until about two hours after I’d got up!!

Ricky — good plan. Except that my breakfast usually consists of a nice, big bowl of muesli, which could get messy on the train.
Moyra — I couldn’t stomach that idea (no pun intended). I must eat when I get up. I’m very much a morning person. And a late night person … it’s just the bit in the middle that I’m not so good at!

Have your lunch at 11:59 and your pill at 10:59

Thanks Mike, but I think that it means that I need to take the pill before I eat for the first time each morning (therefore ‘breakfast’).
And I NEED breakfast.
It’s the most important meal of the day, you know.
The Hobbits got it right, I think.

Damn, this is probably for people who have breakfast at 8, take the pill at 7, even then thats an early start each day.
Sometimes I wonder if chemists and pharmsists think about the advice given on medication.

It’s interesting how we’re all different!!
My stomach definitely is not at it’s best in the morning - has all kinds of tantrums of the indigestion variety if I force food on it too early. It does need liquid, though!

Having been taking a tablet 1/2hr before every meal in order to be allowed to eat for the last 24 years I can assure you it soon becomes second nature - put the muesli complete with milk etc in a sealed container with a small spoon and you can eat anywhere.!
