The delights of three monitors

Screenshot from three monitors

Ah … the delights of developing websites on a PC with three monitors.

Here I’ve got my code in the middle screen, Firefox 2.0.0.12 on my left and on the right: IE6 (top) and IE7 (bottom).

Of course, if I had four monitors then I could have had my Windows Live Messenger and Twitter windows open too!

The attractive red and yellow backgrounds that you can see on the left and right screens I use for debugging, so I can see exactly what is where; in a way that, oddly, white on white doesn’t allow.

I also find Cool Ruler an essential aid when debugging width issues (in IE6).

That’s what I’ve been doing today. Mostly.

I shall stop drooling now, haha.

    That looks great….
Can you share how you are able to run both IE6 and IE7 windows?
Are they both running on the same PC?

Hi Stephen, I use Multiple IE from TredoSoft. It allows you to install

    Internet Explorer 3
    Internet Explorer 4.01
    Internet Explorer 5.01
    Internet Explorer 5.5
    Internet Explorer 6.0

on the same PC, as standalone versions. I find this really, really helpful for testing sites. Having IE6 on the same machine as IE7 is great.

I have colleagues who much prefer to use a separate installation of an OS running on a Virtual Machine (such as Microsoft Virtual PC or VMWare Workstation) to do their testing. But I’ve, so far, found no real issues with the TredoSoft method.
