PsiWin 2.3.3 under Windows 7 Ultimate

Let’s hear it for Psion. Not only did they make first class PDAs, which still have a massive community of user going nuts over, but their PC connectivity software PsiWin — which they stopped developing at version 2.3.3 (copyright 1997-2001) — still works perfectly even under the beta version of Windows 7 Ultimate edition.

Hi, we use Psion Workabouts extensively and employ Psiwin and Epoc to communicate with the Psions. Along comes Windows 64 bit systems and we are unable to get Psiwin to work. Is there any information or advice you can offer to overcome this problem please?
best regards, Mike
Please tell me how you managed this wonder. I have Windows 7 ultimate installed and tried to connect my computer with my PSION 3mx but got only negative results.
Please answer
Many thanks
Goesta
Is it Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit or 64-bit?
Hi Goesta
Sorry delay replying – got married!!
No problem with 32 bit but you have to choose your adapter carefully, can supply adapter if you want.

Hi Gareth
If your reply applies to me – not using ultimate just professional 64 bit
Regards, Mike
I’m going to blog about this in more detail soon, but I managed to get my Psion 5mx to connect to my work PC, running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit using Windows 7 “XP mode”. Worked a treat. The only real gotcha was to make sure that the Virtual PC (XP Mode) COM port setting matched that on the actual PC (Windows 7).
I am still stuck trying to get PsiWin to run under W7 (64 bit Home Prem). I have got the Psion (Revo) to connect OK and I have the short cut to Psion Backup set to run under XP SP 2 (or 3) but when I click the short-cut all I get is the pop up asking if I want it to make changes to the computer and nothing else seems to happen. I have checked the port setting and they are the same as on the Psion. The system tray shows the Psion is connected. Any ideas as to what to do next. I have noted Gareth’s point about checking that both the computer and XP mode port settings are the same but I don’t know how to do this (not very techie! expect the computer to run like a washing machine – turn on use it). Any ideas would be appreciated. I am sure it can be done.
I can connect my PSION Revo Plus usong windows 7 32 bit but PSI Win 2.3.3 doesn’t recognise the device. When the device is in range, windows makes a noise and it says “EPOC device in range”. I have the option to “send to: My PSION D:/” and “My PSION E:/” but when I try to send, it opend up PSI Win which ALWAYS says cannot connect – no matter which com port I use. I’ve matched the speed settings with the modem and the PDA. The only other thing is that I can select to change the chipset on the IRDA driver drop-down menu from “MOSCHIP/SIGMATEL/etc/etc” there are about 10 to choose from. What should I do to get it to work with PSI win (whihc I installed in XP mode)? I’ve also tried IRmon2000k (I think that’s what it’s called) but that didn’t work either.
Thanks.
Just spotted the screen-shot of your Windows 7 installation – how come the active-window border is blue with a drop-shadow and not transparent like the inactive-window behind it which shows the blurred-out desktop??
I used magic. Plus a bit of copy-paste and a graphics application because I couldn’t be bothered to redo the screenshots.
